Career staff at The Union

Career staff play a central role in delivering the wide range of services and experiences that make The Union a vital part of life at Manchester Met. Our work spans multiple specialist areas from providing expert support through our Advice services, to helping students build communities through Societies, empowering student voice and democracy, and running our diverse commercial outlets that keep our spaces welcoming and vibrant.

Working here means joining a passionate, collaborative team committed to giving students the best possible experience. Our organisation is fast paced, people focused, and full of opportunities to make a genuine difference. Staff describe The Union as a place where no two days are the same, where learning and development are embedded into everyday work, and where wellbeing and worklife balance are genuinely valued.

We welcome people at every stage of their career, whether you’re taking your first step into the workplace, building experience in a specialist area, or progressing into a managerial or leadership role. With training opportunities, supportive managers, and a culture that encourages growth, The Union is a place where you can develop your skills, stretch your strengths, and advance your professional journey over time.

The Union is fun, fast-paced and full of people who are passionate about supporting students.

No two days are the same, and that’s probably my favourite thing about working here. I’m naturally curious and love working with people across the organisation to support students and deliver great services to them.

There are loads of opportunities to learn and develop too, from qualifications and courses to learning on the job – and everything in between. The organisation really cares about its people, and I feel support to strike a good work/life balance. Especially important for me as I navigate life as a mum of young twins.
