You're invited to Welcome Week at The Union

Friday 25-08-2023 - 15:09

Whether you’re a Fresher starting at Manchester Met this September, or a Welcome Week veteran excited to return to uni after summer, we’ve got a Welcome Week line up you won’t want to miss.

It's what you've been waiting for: The Union's Welcome Week Guide.

The night-owl

If partying is your thing, look no further than our night events line-up. Kick-off your Welcome Week with our Welcome to MCR Club Night, where you can dance the night away to some live DJ sets playing your fave tunes.

We’ve also got an Alice in Wonderland themed ‘I Love Wednesdays’ night, so come along for pre-drinks or party with the Mad-hatter into the early hours.

For a different vibe (or if you’re all partied out), bring your disco dance moves over to the Roller Disco for a fun night with friends, or come solo and meet new people. Don’t forget our iconic Big Balls Bingo, where you can win wild prizes from air fryers to coffee machines.

The experience seeker

Looking for exciting ways to experience Manchester? We’ve got everything from Melanin Markets and Culture Fest to walking tours and scavenger hunts.

If you want to experience Black culture at it’s finest – look no further than Melanin Markets x The Union. Explore 50 Black-owned businesses, and expect a night of incredible food, art and music - this is an event you won’t want to miss.

Are you excited to join a club or society? Add a visit to Freshers Fair on 26 and 27 September to your Welcome Week plans; it might lead you to a society that becomes the heart of your uni life. You can also pick up loads of freebies and of course, Domino’s pizza. For a friendly face, come and say hi to us at The Union stall.

If you’re looking to make new friends and celebrate cultures from around the world, Culture Fest is the place to be. Take part in games that’ll get you chatting to new people, get some fun pics in the photo booth, and try foods and crafts from societies and local businesses.

The midday mingler

If you prefer socialising during daylight hours, we’ve got you covered. The Union has lots of events in the day suitable for all students and all ages.

First up, get yourself some thrifty bargains at our Vintage Sale, where you can fill a bag with a kilo of pre-loved clothes for a set price. To spruce up your room a bit, come along to ‘Make your Halls a home’, where you can get some unique artwork from our poster sale, and pick up some pre-loved kitchen ware.

If you’re a parent or carer, you don’t need to miss out on Welcome Week. We’ve got two Kids Club events, where you can bring your kids for some entertainment whilst you chat to other students like you. If you’re also a mature student, head along to our Mature Students Mixer afterwards where you can connect with other people starting a degree later in life.

Not living on campus? Come along to our Commuters Chat and Chill to meet other students who’ll be commuting, maybe you can even find someone to car-share with!

Finish off your day by practicing some wellbeing at our Sunset Yoga sessions, on at The Union every evening during Welcome Week.
