At The Union, we’re so excited to welcome you all to Manchester Met and show you everything university life has to offer.
Now you’re officially free from the A-Level stress, it’s time to get planning the best week of the year.
For this year’s Welcome Week we’ve gone even bigger and better with over 40 events lined up just for you and The Union have evebpartnered with Manchester-based event company Cool It to bring you more evens than ever before. We’ve designed it so every event will help you settle in, make new friends, and start your university journey on the right foot.
From the epic Freshers' Fair, where you can explore various clubs and societies, to pre’s, posters, plants and clothing sales. Believe us, there's something for everyone.
What’s different this year?
This year, The Union is joining forces with Cool It to bring you the ultimate Welcome experience! If you’re after the classic club nights and big nights out, you’ll need a Cool It wristband to get into all those events across Manchester.
And, the only way you can get access to all of these events is by getting your hands on the Official Manchester Met Freshers Week wristband from Cool It.
But don’t worry if that’s not quite your vibe, The Union has loads of fun, more low key events like bingo, pub quizzes, IKEA trips, and more, and you don’t need a wristband for those. Whether you're up for a party or prefer something a bit more low-key, there's something for everyone, drinking or not!

A Fan Favourite...
Freshers Fair: Two days' worth of freebies to fill your pockets, fun and more. Pop down and discover all the student societies and services available, meet new people and maybe even win some prizes along the way.
For the Night Owls…
Socialites, it’s your time to shine. Not sure who’s flat should hold pres? Come to Boundary instead.
We’ll be having pre’s for moving in day and are the official pre-party for some of Cool It's night’s out. Anyone can come to them but the drinks deals we’ve got on are for Cool It wristband holders only.
Wanting an immersive cultural experience?
Come and celebrate diversity with The Union's very own Culture Fest. This free event is all about welcoming our international students with a culture exchange. You can expect live performances and delicious food stalls.
Craving some more wholesome vibes?
Oh have we got you. Get yourself down to our poster and plant sale or even join The Union for a cheeky trip to IKEA (make sure to grab a ticket for that one!).
You could even treat yourself at one of our vintage clothing sales or jewelry stalls. Don’t stress if not though, we have these on throughout the year!
The Salutation Pub
You’ll be getting to know The Sal very well over your time at uni, so we thought it was only fair we gave you a proper introduction to it.
Think beer garden parties, live Irish and folk music sessions, pub quiz nights, art and culture talks as well as a Meet The Brewery with Bollington Brewing Co (you can definitely expect some free samples)
For the Mature Students and Commuters...
If you’re a mature student, head along to our Mature Students Mixer where you can connect with other people starting a degree later in life.
Not living on campus? Come along to our Commuters Chat and Chill to meet other students who’ll be commuting, maybe you can even find someone to car-share with!
